Home IT support in Melbourne
Help with the technology at home, from patchy Wi-Fi and new devices to keeping family photos safe, from someone who works with IT at enterprise level every day.
When home tech gets in the way
A typical home now runs as many devices as a small office: laptops, phones, tablets, TVs, cameras, speakers and smart plugs, often on equipment the internet provider set up and nobody has looked at since.
When the Wi-Fi drops out in the back bedroom or a new laptop won't find the printer, it's hard to know where to start, and easy to lose a weekend to it.
What I help with
-
Wi-Fi and home networking
Coverage in the rooms you actually use, with the modem, router and access points set up properly. More on Wi-Fi and networking.
-
Device set-up and troubleshooting
New computers, phones, tablets and printers set up and connected, and existing ones sorted out when they misbehave.
-
Home network optimisation
Find what's slowing things down, retire old equipment, and make sure the network is secured with current firmware and strong passwords.
-
Smart home connectivity
TVs, speakers, cameras and smart devices connected reliably, and kept on their own network where that makes sense.
-
NAS installation and configuration
One central place for photos, files and media, with backups set up from day one. More on NAS and backup.
How a home visit works
I start by looking at what you already have. Often the fix is a configuration change or one well-placed access point rather than replacing everything, and I'll tell you if that's the case.
Before I finish, I explain what I changed and why, and leave notes on anything you might need later, like Wi-Fi passwords and how the backups run.
